Fruit flies, also known as vinegar flies or drain flies, feed and breed in fruits, vegetables or fermented products. Adult flies are attracted to ripe or overripe fruit, garbage, fresh compost or fermentation products (juices, beer, wine, vinegar, etc) and lay their eggs on or near them. New flies emerge in 8 to 10 days in the summer.
